We’re expecting another snowstorm in the Northeast this week, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t dreaming of warmer weather. In fact, we’re already thinking about how to revamp our backyards this spring. Keep reading to see some of the top design trends for 2014.
Garden designs this season are focused on one major selling point: low maintenance. The average homeowner doesn’t have the time or the patience to spend hours each week tending to their gardens. (If it’s something you love doing, then more power to you!) Most consumers are opting for flower gardens with fewer types of blooms or even container gardens to help reduce maintenance.
Many homeowners are opting to take entertaining outdoors whenever possible, creating, essentially, weatherproof living spaces outside. Outdoor kitchens, sound systems and weatherproof televisions all add to this feeling, along with comfortable, sturdy furniture that can withstand being outside without sacrificing comfort.
With homeowners using their backyard spaces as an extension of their home, lighting has become a necessity to transition these spots from day to night. Solar-powered lamps, string lights and fire pits are all excellent sources of light for spending nights outdoors.
