We all know someone in our lives that has been touched by cancer. Unfortunately, most of us have at one time felt the unavoidable and devastating sting that it can leave on our family and friends. And that’s why we at William Raveis have partnered with Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation to raise funds that go directly to cancer research.
Through our Charitable Fund and the second annual Raveis Ride + Walk, we are all in it to fight cancer. The New Canaan team, led by Gillian De Palo, has gone above and beyond, raising $6,184 OVER their goal of $20,000 . We spoke with Gillian on her tips, and why it’s so important to the William Raveis New Canaan office to support cancer research.
WR- Gillian, please tell us a bit about Team New Canaan.
GDP- We are so happy to be the Company’s #1 fundraising office for the Ride + Walk! It is an honor to be a part of such an inspirational event and we are grateful for the opportunity to play even a small part in helping the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation’s brilliant scientists. If I had to pick one word that exemplifies the town of New Canaan, my office and what motivates the agents who work here: That word would be “Community”. Every town and every office has a certain character that differentiates them. Without a doubt, our town and our agents are motivated by this concept.
WR- What was the office goal this year?
GDP- For the Ride + Walk this year, we set out with the initial goal of $20,000. We knew it was a lofty goal and we surprised ourselves by surpassing it! Next year, we hope to double down on that goal and fund a scientist for one year solely out of the proceeds from New Canaan’s efforts. With $26,184 at the end of the October 30th donations, we hope we made an impact!
WR- What kinds of fundraising techniques and activities did you utilize this year?
GDP- I would say the most important activities that made us successful were getting everyone excited to sign up early, involving the whole office in the fun of planning, getting our loan officer involved, having raffles for participants, asking those who signed up to get their families involved, reaching out on social media, sending emails, having shopping events and having our own tent at the event. But the one cohesive element that pervaded everything and was at the core of this event for us was the sheer desire to make a difference by being together. That enthusiasm is contagious and is a part of everything we do as a team.
Our agents are wonderful, caring people who want to take an active role in the fight against cancer.
We have agents, spouses, children, family and friends who have all been touched by this disease.
Ultimately, our strong sense of community is what brings us together, and together WE WILL FIND A CURE.
