September is officially Mold Awareness Month, sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA states that mold creates “toxins that cause asthma, respiratory infections and chronic sinus problems.”

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month

Lyme disease is an infection that humans and animals can contract from the bite of an infected deer tick. There’s no way to accurately quantify how many cases of Lyme disease are reported each year, due to misdiagnosis and underreporting (the Center for Disease Control [CDC] estimates it at somewhere around 30,000.)
