Although Women’s History Month is coming to an end, our appreciation for women at Raveis is something we have yearlong. We are finishing our #WomenAtRaveis series with two more remarkable women: Deb Payson and Rachel Ryan!
Our first feature this week is Strategic Growth & Sales Manager of the Marblehead Office, Deb Payson; click here to read more about her.

How did you first start at William Raveis?
I have worked in real estate for 1 year at William Raveis. I have spent most of my career working for non-profit organizations that support local communities, children, education and innovation. I have lived in Marblehead for more than 20 years, and was honored to have been able to meet several William Raveis agents through volunteering and local jobs. One longtime William Raveis agent in particular, Jack Attridge, a local community leader and mentor to many of us, has advocated for the community, WRRE’s commitment to our local communities and their innovative technologies. He was a huge part of my joining William Raveis and I will forever be thankful to him. I am now lucky to work for the best company with the best agents and leaders!
What sets Raveis apart as a company? How would you describe the culture?
The culture at William Raveis is unmatched – the family-owned and accessible culture coupled with the leadership and their tremendous devotion to helping agents succeed is inspiring. Locally, we are like a family – helping each other through trainings, education, outings, volunteering together and more.
What do you love about real estate and why? What excites you about the business?
Real estate is such an amazing aspect of all of our lives. What better way to help people, families, children, and our community than helping people through one of the biggest transactions of their lifetime?!

Do you have a mantra that you follow for your business, real estate, or in general?
While working at MIT, I saw the best and brightest innovate the most when they were at a point of failure. So, I constantly push myself and others to go outside of the comfort zone and to not fear failure. Failure is where you will learn the most.
Describe a typical day in the life.
I am a single mom of 3 kids and 5 rescue pets, so there really is no typical day. But I do have a great work-life balance, which William Raveis encourages and supports. I enjoy a morning coffee, taking my dogs out, driving someone to school, a full workday with amazing people who make me laugh and smile, dinner with my kids, exercise…and then something with my kids and pups (a walk, movie, baking, etc.). I also love volunteering. I work with a teen in foster care so I spend time supporting him whenever possible.
What opportunities has working for Raveis given you?
The opportunities at William Raveis are endless. The ability to grow our office, interact with our agents on a daily basis, support and grow our efforts in our local community, and I also love the opportunity to learn from the best.
What are your greatest strengths?
My greatest strength comes from my team. Their ability to grow, inspire and pivot in any environment allows me to lead and grow our office. I am thankful, every day, for my amazing team and the leadership at William Raveis.

What is the key to your success?
The key to my success is to believe in the good in everyone and to help bring it out.
What does Raveis mean to you?
Raveis means family, friendships, innovation, and success.
Have you had to overcome any obstacles? How did Raveis help you?
I think most of us have overcome many obstacles throughout my life. Most recently, William Raveis helped our team persevere through COVID – with virtual trainings, tools, and endless support to keep moving forward!
What’s your best advice for someone new to the industry?
Enjoy every moment. Learn. Fail. Grow. Achieve. And work at William Raveis where you will be helped every step of the way.

How long have you worked in real estate?
I have worked in real estate for over 12 years, and the last eight at William Raveis. I have always loved the fast-paced and ever-changing landscape of the industry and really enjoy the personal touch of working directly with the agents and being able to offer them creative solutions to help support their business. FUN FACT: It all started as a summer job in high school stuffing mailers for a local agent in my town. I was fascinated with the workings of the real estate industry and loved that I was able to help her build her business. I guess the rest is history. 😊
What sets Raveis apart as a company? How would you describe the culture?
I have had the opportunity to work in many different offices and the one thing they all have in common is the high level of respect the agents, staff and management have for each other. It is truly a team environment!
What do you love about real estate and why? What excites you about the business?
Every day is different (which is why I love my job!). The real estate industry is always evolving and staying ahead of the curve isn’t always easy…but for me, it’s the challenge that makes it an exciting business to work in.
What opportunities has working for Raveis given you?
In a word: endless! I get to learn and grow alongside of the best in the business.
What is the key to your success?
Hard work, empathy, and adaptability.
